Xinyi District

Xinyi District is a district in Taipei, Taiwan, combining residential and commercial areas with high-rise towers, shopping centers and office buildings. The area extends between lower apartment blocks to the north and denser development around the commercial center to the south.

The area belonged to Matsuyama Village during the Japanese colonial period and grew into a rural suburb over the following decades. Authorities separated it from Songshan District in 1990 and created the current independent administrative area.

The district name Xinyi means trust and justice in Chinese, and this idea appears today in the public spaces and buildings. In the parks, residents and visitors sit under shaded trees while streets hold modern shops beside restaurants with open kitchens.

Most visitors reach the district through several metro stations that run along the main roads. Many paths are wide and allow easy walking between individual neighborhoods and shopping areas.

Xiangshan Mountain in the district offers a climb up stone steps that pass through dense forest to an open rock plateau. From there, visitors see the whole city spread below, particularly at sunset or twilight.
