The district contains forty residential villages and extends across an area featuring modern skyscrapers, shopping centers, and commercial buildings.
The area transformed from Matsuyama Village during Japanese rule into a separate district in 1990 when Taipei authorities divided the former Songshan district.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in the district presents exhibitions, performances, and educational programs about Chinese and Taiwanese heritage throughout the year.
The district connects to multiple transportation lines through Taipei City Hall Station and offers direct access to National Freeway 1.
From Xiangshan Mountain within the district, visitors reach an elevation of 183 meters for complete views of the surrounding cityscape.
