Elephant Mountain

Elephant Mountain, Mountain peak in Xinyi District, Taiwan.

Elephant Mountain is a 183-meter-high peak in Xinyi District with stone steps leading to several observation platforms. From these viewpoints, you can see Taipei 101 and the entire city skyline.

The mountain got its name from its natural shape resembling an elephant and is part of the Four Beasts Mountains that protect Taipei. This legendary geography has shaped the city's identity for generations.

Locals use the mountain as part of their daily exercise routine, and you'll see groups of people walking or jogging here regularly, especially in early mornings. The nearby temples serve as gathering points where residents meet before heading up the trails.

The main trails are well marked and not too steep, so visitors of different fitness levels can handle them comfortably. The best time to visit is early morning when fewer people are on the mountain and the light is better for photos.

From this peak, photographers get an unobstructed view of fireworks launched from Taipei 101 during New Year celebrations. It is one of the best spots in the city to experience this annual display.
