CaoLi Fishing Port, Fishing port in Shimen District, Taiwan
CaoLi Fishing Port is a small port on the northern coast of Taiwan, located in Caoli Village. It has separate sections for fishing vessels and smaller traditional boats, with a wharf and enough space to accommodate the boats of local fishermen.
The port was established in 1953 under the name Alilao, serving as a simple docking point for local boats. Over time it was renamed and expanded to keep up with the growing needs of local fishing operations.
Local fishermen use traditional long lines and hand-held dip nets to catch anchovies and squid in the northern waters. These fishing methods shape what you see at the port and define the daily work rhythm here.
Arriving early in the morning gives the best chance to see the boats and fishermen at work. The area is flat and easy to get around, and there is no particular season that makes a visit difficult.
The northern section of the port stays calmer than the outer coast throughout the year, allowing boats to be moored safely even in worse weather. This naturally sheltered position is why the facility continues to function reliably despite its small size.
