Taras Shevchenko monument, Bronze statue and stone relief wall in Washington D.C., United States.

The Taras Shevchenko monument features a bronze figure facing south with a granite wall incorporating a relief depicting the mythological figure Prometheus.

The monument received approval through Public Law 86-749 signed by President Eisenhower in 1960 and was unveiled during a ceremony with 100,000 attendees in 1964.

The monument commemorates Taras Shevchenko, a 19th-century Ukrainian poet and artist who shaped modern Ukrainian literature through his advocacy for independence.

The memorial stands in a triangular park at the intersection of P Street and 22nd Street Northwest, near Rock Creek Park and the Church of the Pilgrims.

A stainless steel urn containing soil from Shevchenko's grave was incorporated into the monument site in 1965, connecting it directly to Ukraine.
