Oldham County, County administration in Texas, United States.
Oldham County is an administrative area in the northern section of Texas covering roughly 3,900 square kilometers. The landscape consists of grasslands and is crossed by the Canadian River, with Vega serving as the main administrative center and Tascosa as a smaller community.
The county originated in 1876 from land that was part of the XIT Ranch, one of the largest cattle operations of that era. The original county seat at Tascosa was moved to Vega in 1915, where it remains today.
Small towns in the area show how communities here have built their lives around ranching and agriculture over generations. The way people gather and work together reflects the values of the high plains region.
Vega serves as the administrative center where visitors can find a driver's license office that operates during weekday hours. Planning a weekday visit allows you to see the town functioning normally and access any services you may need.
The abandoned town of Glenrio sits along the Texas-New Mexico border with disputed territory ownership between the two states. Early surveying errors created this ongoing boundary dispute that remains unsettled today.
