Texas Tornado, Steel roller coaster at Wonderland Park in Amarillo, Texas
Texas Tornado is a steel roller coaster at Wonderland Park in Amarillo that spans hundreds of meters and features two vertical loops. The ride displays a red, white, and blue color scheme and operates with trains composed of five connected cars.
This ride opened in 1985 as a Hopkins-designed coaster and became part of Amarillo's amusement park. Engineers made adjustments to the first loop during testing to ensure smooth train passage through the element.
The white-colored version of Texas Tornado appeared as a selectable user icon in Microsoft Windows 7 before its repainting in 2010.
Each train carries around 20 riders with two rows of seats per car arranged for comfortable seating. Check park guidelines for height requirements and any other restrictions before boarding.
Engineers sketched the initial design concept on a napkin at a trade show cocktail party before the project moved forward. This casual beginning led to the creation of one of the park's notable rides.
