Edmonson County covers 308 square miles of land in south central Kentucky, with forests, agricultural fields, and waterways across its territory.
The county was established on January 12, 1825, and named after Captain John Edmonson, who died during the Battle of Frenchtown in 1813.
Local celebrations include the Big Brownsville Bash in June and the Edmonson County Lions Club Fair in September at the county fairgrounds.
Brownsville serves as the county seat and contains the combined Edmonson County High and Middle School complex within its boundaries.
Mammoth Cave National Park occupies approximately one-fourth of the county's area and receives nearly 2 million visitors annually.
