Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Indoor stadium in downtown Minneapolis, United States
Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome was an indoor stadium in downtown Minneapolis featuring a large air-supported roof made of fiberglass fabric that covered the entire playing field and seating areas. The structure held different seating arrangements depending on the event, with movable sections that could be adjusted to fit various sports and gatherings.
The stadium opened in 1982 and served as home for professional teams from different sports over three decades. Demolition took place in 2014 after the last teams moved to newer facilities.
The Metrodome transformed Minneapolis sports by providing Minnesota's first indoor facility for professional athletics, concerts, and community gatherings throughout the year.
Visitors should note that this stadium no longer exists and a different sports complex now stands in its place. The site is located in the central part of the city and is easy to reach by public transit.
The complex housed a walking track along the enclosed concourses during winter months that was open to the public. Local residents regularly used the sheltered indoor space for jogging and walking when snow and cold temperatures arrived outside.
