Gold Medal Park, Urban park in Downtown East Minneapolis, United States
Gold Medal Park is an urban park featuring a prominent earth mound in its center, accessed by a spiral walkway that winds around it. The grounds are planted with mature trees and crisscrossed by walking paths for visitors to explore.
The park was established in 2007 through a partnership between a local foundation, the city, and a prominent theater organization. This collaboration brought a new public space to the downtown riverfront area.
The name references Gold Medal flour, a product of the local milling industry that once dominated the area. The design also draws inspiration from the natural mounds found throughout Minnesota.
The park sits next to the Mississippi River and is easily reached on foot from several directions. Wear comfortable walking shoes if you plan to climb the spiral walkway to the mound's top.
The park features special benches that glow subtly after dark, creating a soft light along the walking paths. Several of the mature trees were deliberately brought from the eastern United States to establish the forested feel quickly.
