The San Remo, Luxury apartment building on Central Park West, Manhattan, United States.
The San Remo is a residential skyscraper on Central Park West in Manhattan, New York, known for its twin towers rising from a shared base. The lower floors feature limestone cladding, while light brick with terracotta details shapes the appearance above.
Emery Roth designed the 27-story building in 1929 in the English Baroque style, and it opened in 1930. It became the first twin-towered residential building along this stretch of the avenue, setting a new standard for luxury living in the city.
The name San Remo recalls the Italian coastal town and matches the Romanesque feeling the building projects. Residents enjoy direct views over Central Park, while the marble entrance lobby and decorated elevator doors reflect the wealth of the era.
The building sits between West 74th and 75th Streets and is easily visible from the street, though the entrance lobby remains accessible only to residents and their guests. The towers rise from several setbacks that form terraces between the 14th and 17th floors.
The height of 122 meters made the building one of the tallest residential structures in the city when it opened. The two tower tops carry Romanesque temple features that light up at night and can be seen from afar.
