Nightmare at Crack Axle Canyon, Steel roller coaster in Queensbury, New York, United States
Nightmare at Crack Axle Canyon is a steel roller coaster that travels through an enclosed warehouse shrouded in darkness, featuring sharp turns and sudden twists along its track. Riders experience the ride confined within the building, making it feel different from outdoor coasters at the park.
This coaster started operating in 1972 at Beech Bend under the name Jet Star and later traveled to parks in Kentucky and Ohio before arriving at The Great Escape in 2006. Over its years at different locations, the ride adapted to fit each park's theme while maintaining its core appeal.
Located in the Ghosttown section of The Great Escape park, the roller coaster incorporated elements of American frontier themes throughout its operation until 2006.
The ride reaches speeds around 50 kilometers per hour and stands about 13 meters tall, with passengers sitting in single-file cars. Since the coaster runs through a dark building, it helps to take a moment to adjust to the lighting before boarding.
The warehouse building that houses this ride remains visible from other areas of the park and was converted into a haunted house attraction during the 2013 Fright Fest event. This shows how the park repurposed the structure for seasonal entertainment.
