Great Escape, Amusement park in Queensbury, New York, United States
Great Escape is an amusement and theme park in Queensbury, New York, that offers 35 rides across 142 hectares. The grounds include wooden and steel roller coasters, family attractions, and a water park section called Hurricane Harbor with slides and pools.
The site opened in 1954 as Storytown USA with a Mother Goose theme for younger children. The name changed to The Great Escape in 1983, and the operating company Six Flags took over the site from 1996.
The venue features zones named Fest Area and Hot Rod USA that recreate different forms of American entertainment. These sections shape the grounds with architecture and decor that visitors experience as they walk through the areas.
A single admission covers the main park and the water attractions of Hurricane Harbor throughout the operating season. Visitors should bring appropriate clothing for both sections, as the grounds allow for several hours of activity.
A wooden roller coaster called Comet was relocated here from Crystal Beach Park in 1994 and represents North American coaster design from the mid-20th century. This ride shows the construction style of traditional wooden structures that many parks no longer operate.
