Steamin' Demon, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, New York.
Steamin' Demon is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, New York, recognizable by its orange track and three inversions that include a vertical loop and two corkscrew elements. The track runs at a maximum height of around 95 feet (29 m), and the train holds 28 riders across seven cars.
The coaster was first built as Ragin' Cajun at Pontchartrain Beach, an amusement park in New Orleans. In 1984 it was moved to its current location in Queensbury and renamed Steamin' Demon.
The ride sits in the Ghosttown section of the park, a zone decorated to evoke the American gold rush era. The name and the steam-powered theme fit naturally into this setting, where the overall look of the area tells a story visitors can follow just by walking through.
Riders must meet a minimum height requirement of 48 inches (122 cm) to board this ride. Visiting earlier in the day generally means shorter lines, especially on weekends and holidays when the park tends to fill up.
From 2016, the ride was equipped with Samsung Gear VR headsets that let passengers fight off alien invaders during the journey. This made it one of the early examples of a traditional coaster paired with a live virtual reality experience in a real park setting.
