York

York is a coastal town in southern Maine composed of four village areas: York Village, York Harbor, York Beach, and Cape Neddick. These communities sit along the Atlantic Ocean and connect through scenic roads that run past beaches and rocky shorelines.

The settlement was founded in 1624 as Agamenticus and grew into an important trading hub between New England and the West Indies. These trade connections shaped the town's early development and supported its expansion over time.

The restored colonial buildings show how residents lived and worked across generations. Visitors can walk through these homes and see the everyday spaces people occupied long ago.

The town has several beaches including Long Sands and Short Sands with parking areas, restrooms, and lifeguards during summer months. The beaches are spread across the different village areas and accessible by car throughout the region.

Mount Agamenticus stands a short distance away and offers hiking trails with views that reach from the Atlantic Ocean to the White Mountains. The mountain shares its name with the original settlement established here centuries ago.
