Lady Pepperrell House, Historic mansion in Kittery Point, Maine, United States.
The Lady Pepperrell House is a two-story wood structure in Kittery Point featuring four chimneys and refined architectural details including fluted columns and ornamental rooflines. A projecting bay at the center of the front facade stands beneath a gabled pediment and displays smooth board finish, contrasting with the clapboard walls elsewhere.
The house was built in 1760 by Lady Mary Pepperrell following her husband's death. It commemorates Sir William Pepperrell, the only colonial American to receive a baronetcy from the British Crown.
The house reflects how wealthy colonists drew inspiration from English architectural traditions and displayed their status through refined details. The carefully preserved interior woodwork and formal room arrangement show how affluent families organized their living spaces during the 1700s.
The house sits along State Route 103 across from the First Congregational Church, making it easy to locate in the area. It is managed by Historic New England and subject to preservation requirements that maintain its historical condition.
The house is one of the few surviving residences of a colonial American family granted a baronetcy, a rare honor that reflected extraordinary service to the British Crown. Visitors can observe how seldom the Crown elevated colonials to such high rank.
