Louisville Museum Plaza, Unfinished high-rise building project in Louisville, Kentucky
Louisville Museum Plaza is an unfinished 62-story high-rise building located on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Louisville. The project was designed to house luxury apartments, commercial office space, and a hotel in a single mixed-use tower.
Construction began in 2007 with significant investment and optimism about the project's future. Economic challenges from the broader financial downturn forced the project to halt in 2011, leaving the structure incomplete.
The structure included plans for a contemporary art institute and the University of Louisville Master of Fine Arts program situated 24 stories above ground.
The building is not open to the public since construction was never completed. The incomplete structure remains visible from downtown Louisville and along the riverfront, standing as an industrial landmark.
The building elevated public programs to the 24th floor, creating an 'Island' that separated different functions while maintaining connections between spaces.
