1100 Superior

1100 Superior is an International Style skyscraper that rises 23 stories with dark-colored exterior walls and extensive window openings throughout. The structure occupies space in the Nine-Twelve District and houses office areas connected to parking facilities.

The tower was designed in 1972 by the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill for Diamond Shamrock, an oil refining company based in Texas. Its construction reflected a period when modern office buildings were reshaping American downtowns.

The building represents the modernist design principles of the 1970s and shapes how downtown Cleveland looks today. Visitors can see how its clean lines and functional approach defined the architectural thinking of that era.
