The Statler is a 14-story apartment building located at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and East 12th Street in Cleveland's Theater District. It contains approximately 295 residential units and anchors an important corner in the city's downtown.
The building opened in 1912 as a hotel with approximately 700 rooms and went through several transformations over the decades. Its conversion to residential apartments in 2001 reflected changing urban needs and preserved the structure for modern use.
The hotel's success led the Statler chain to open houses in Washington, Detroit, St. Louis, New York, Hartford, Dallas and Los Angeles. Its 1930s expansion added the Terrace dining room, a Gentlemen's Lounge, a library and a Pompeian Room, names a visitor can still trace in the building's layout.
The building is easily accessible by public transportation and sits in the heart of the downtown business district. The surrounding area provides convenient access to restaurants, shops, and cultural venues in the Theater District.
The hotel's success in Cleveland led the Statler chain to open hotels in Washington, Detroit, St. Louis, New York City, Hartford, Dallas and Los Angeles. Hilton bought the chain in 1954, and the Cleveland building became The Statler Hilton in 1958.
