The Statler

The Statler is a 14-story apartment building located at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and East 12th Street in Cleveland's Theater District. It contains approximately 295 residential units and anchors an important corner in the city's downtown.

The building opened in 1912 as a hotel with approximately 700 rooms and went through several transformations over the decades. Its conversion to residential apartments in 2001 reflected changing urban needs and preserved the structure for modern use.

Throughout the 20th century, this structure hosted numerous gatherings and meetings of various groups, including the Dante Alghieri Society. The spaces served as meeting places where different communities came together and formed connections.

The building is easily accessible by public transportation and sits in the heart of the downtown business district. The surrounding area provides convenient access to restaurants, shops, and cultural venues in the Theater District.

During 2018 renovations, workers discovered a hidden speakeasy from the Prohibition era concealed within the building's walls. This discovery revealed a secret chapter in the structure's history tied to an earlier period of urban life.
