PNC Center, Office skyscraper in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
PNC Center is a modern office skyscraper in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, designed by the firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. It rises 27 floors with a light-colored facade covered in a regular grid of rectangular windows.
The tower was completed in 1979 and was the tallest building constructed in Cincinnati during that decade. It was built as the headquarters of Central Trust Bank, one of the leading financial institutions in the region at the time.
The building was originally the headquarters of Central Trust Bank and later took the name of PNC, the financial company that occupies it today. It remains a working office tower, and its presence on the corner of Main and East Fifth Street makes it easy to spot while walking through downtown Cincinnati.
The building stands at the corner of Main Street and East Fifth Street in downtown Cincinnati, making it easy to find on foot. A public plaza on its southeast side offers a place to stop and take in the view of the tower.
Unlike many office towers of its era, the building has stepped setbacks on both its horizontal and vertical planes, which gives the facade an unusual depth. This was a deliberate design choice that set it apart from the more box-like towers built around the same time.
