Classical High School

Classical High School is a concrete school building constructed in 1970 located at the intersection of Federal Hill, West End, and Upper South Providence neighborhoods. The school enrolls students in grades 9-12 and requires an entrance exam for admission.

The school was founded in 1843 as an all-male institution. Over time it moved through different buildings before establishing itself at its current location on Westminster Street.

The school motto 'Certare, Petere, Reperire, Neque Cedere' draws from Latin tradition and means 'To Strive, to Seek, to Find, and Not to Yield'. These words shape the daily life of students and reflect how deeply classical education influences the school community.

Admission to the school requires passing an entrance examination, so plan ahead if you want to visit. The building sits at a crossroads of several neighborhoods, making it relatively easy to reach.

Students participate in a specialized travel program that organizes educational journeys to countries such as Peru, Japan, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Scotland, and Ireland. This program links classical education with hands-on experiences at historical and cultural sites around the world.
