Constitution Plaza, Commercial development in Downtown Hartford, US

Constitution Plaza is a four-acre commercial development featuring office towers, pedestrian bridges, and two distinct plaza areas in downtown Hartford. The spaces are connected by an elevated walkway system that creates a unified environment for workers and visitors.

The project was built between 1961 and 1964, replacing the historic Front Street neighborhood in one of Hartford's first major urban renewal efforts. This transformation marked a significant turning point in the city's downtown development.

The plaza features a 40-foot granite clock tower in the northern section and a fountain in the southern area, where seasonal events take place regularly. Visitors can observe daily downtown life and participate in various community activities throughout the year.

The site is easily accessed on foot through pedestrian bridges and elevated walkways that connect various buildings together. Visitors should expect a multi-level layout with multiple pathways to explore at their own pace.

The plaza's name came from a local waitress named June Sawyer who won a public naming contest for the development. Her suggestion became an important part of the site's identity when it opened to the public.
