Samarkand State Medical University, Medical university in Samarqand City, Uzbekistan.
Samarkand State Medical University is a medical school in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with several buildings along Amir Temur Street. The campus holds classrooms, research labs, two university clinics used for student training, and a large library.
The institution was founded in 1930, making it one of the oldest medical schools in Central Asia. During World War II, it took on an expanded role by training more medical staff and hosting evacuated military medical academies from other parts of the Soviet Union.
Students from dozens of countries attend courses here, giving the campus a noticeably international character. Teaching takes place in Russian, Uzbek, and English, so local and foreign learners study side by side.
The campus runs along Amir Temur Street and is easy to navigate on foot since the main buildings are close together. This is an active teaching and clinical site, so visitors without a specific appointment will have limited access.
The university runs nine separate academic divisions, which is unusual for a single medical institution in the region, covering fields from dentistry to pediatrics and pharmacy. This means that students from very different disciplines share the same buildings and interact daily.
