MuseumsQuartier, Cultural center in Neubau district, Vienna, Austria
MuseumsQuartier is a large cultural area in the Neubau district with museums, galleries, and exhibition spaces for contemporary art. The complex consists of multiple buildings arranged around open courtyards and pathways where visitors can move freely.
This site was originally an imperial horse stable with baroque buildings from the Habsburg era. The stables were later transformed into an art center and opened as a new cultural district in 2001.
Two major art museums sit side by side here, displaying Austrian modern works and contemporary pieces from Central Europe. Visitors can move between these collections and explore different artistic directions within the same area.
The site is easy to reach by public transit, as several metro lines stop nearby. Visitors can explore the entire area on foot and find pathways connecting different spaces throughout the complex.
The complex includes hidden passages with art installations and sound art that serve as walkways between museums and are often overlooked. These special corridors display artist works scattered throughout the grounds.
