ZOOM Kindermuseum, Interactive children museum in Neubau, Austria
ZOOM Kindermuseum is a hands-on space where children of different ages learn by trying things out and exploring on their own. The areas are organized by age group and offer ways to experiment with how things work, make art, and learn about producing films and other media.
The museum opened in 1994 at the MuseumsQuartier as a new way to teach children through hands-on activities rather than just looking at displays. This approach became a model for how interactive spaces for young people could work and influence learning.
Children here work with art and media in ways that help them express themselves and see how others create and communicate. The spaces encourage young visitors to try making things and to understand creative processes as part of everyday life.
The location is easy to reach on foot and visits tend to feel less crowded on quieter weekdays. Plan for enough time since younger and older children will want to spend time in different areas.
In the animation section, children around age 8 and older can make their own short animated films and learn how movement and editing work in practice. They take home actual small films they created themselves.
