Hochfeiler, Summit in Zillertal Alps, Austria
The Hochfeiler mountain reaches an elevation of 3,510 meters and forms a natural border between Tyrol in Austria and South Tyrol in Italy.
The first documented ascent of Hochfeiler occurred on July 24, 1865, when mountaineers Paul Grohmann, Georg Samer, and Peter Fuchs reached the summit.
The mountain carries two distinct names: Hochfeiler in German-speaking regions and Gran Pilastro in Italian-speaking territories, reflecting the regional linguistic diversity.
The Gran Pilastro mountain hut at 2,710 meters provides accommodation and basic services for climbers attempting to reach the summit.
The Austrian side of Hochfeiler remains completely covered by a glacier, while the Italian southern route becomes free of snow during summer months.
