Glorer Hütte, Mountain hut in Kals am Großglockner, Austria
The Glorer Hütte sits at 2,642 meters in the Glockner Mountains and serves as a base for many hiking routes through Hohe Tauern National Park. The shelter provides lodging and meals for mountaineers and walkers exploring the high alpine terrain.
The shelter was built in 1887 by three local men from the Kalser area under the direction of mountaineer Johann Stüdl. It was established at the initiative of the German Alpine Club to provide refuge for climbers in this high alpine region.
The mountain hut maintains traditional Alpine hospitality by serving regional specialties including onion soup and lentils with smoked meat to visiting hikers.
The hut can be reached after a two-hour walk from Lucknerhaus and provides simple lodging for climbers. Visitors should note that only cash is accepted and opening times may vary depending on the season.
Along the path from Lucknerhaus there is an educational trail that teaches visitors about the geology and soil composition of the alpine landscape. This learning path turns the hike to the shelter into an experience where one can better understand the natural surroundings.
