Preintalerhütte, Mountain hut in Schladminger Tauern, Austria
Preintalerhütte is a mountain hut sitting at 1,730 meters (5,676 feet) elevation in the Schladminger Tauern and accommodates about 120 guests across private rooms and dormitories. The building sits in a valley setting and serves as a base for hikes to surrounding peaks.
The hut was built as a stopping point along the Central Alpine Trail to connect major peaks in the region. Over time it became an established mountain lodge with continuous operation serving hikers and climbers.
The Höflehner family prepares regional Styrian specialties inside the hut, keeping alive the traditional mountain hospitality of the Eastern Alps. Guests experience here a culture of welcome that has been passed down through generations.
The hut can be reached by a hike taking about 2.5 hours from Seeleiten, passing through a canyon and along several lakes on the way. Good footwear and proper mountain gear are needed for this trail.
From the hut you have direct access to Klafferkessel, a mountain basin filled with numerous lakes and natural pools scattered among the peaks. This area draws hikers but remains less crowded than some other Alpine passes.
