Zilvermuseum Sterckshof, Silver museum in Deurne, Belgium
Zilvermuseum Sterckshof is a museum dedicated to silver craftsmanship and housed within a neo-Flemish Renaissance castle. The collection spans from the 16th century to contemporary times and includes both domestic and religious silver objects.
The museum opened in 1994 within Sterckshof castle and operated for 2 decades before closing in 2014. Its collection was subsequently integrated into a new silver pavilion and consolidated with other institutions.
The collection is organized by how objects were used and the techniques craftspeople employed to make them. You can see domestic and religious silver pieces created by Belgian artisans and notice the different styles that emerged over time.
The collection is now displayed in the Umicore Zilverpaviljoen in Antwerp and offers free admission to visitors. The pavilion is open from Tuesday through Sunday and can be easily reached by public transport.
The museum operated a working silversmith workshop that visitors could observe in action. Each year a Belgian craftsperson was commissioned to create a new silver piece for the collection, showcasing contemporary artistry.
