Lange Nelle Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Ostend, Belgium
The Lange Nelle Lighthouse features a two-stage design with an octagonal lower section and cylindrical upper section, decorated with white paint and blue bands.
Built in 1949 as the fourth lighthouse in Ostend's history, this 57.5-meter structure replaced the original 1771 tower to guide maritime navigation.
The lighthouse stands as a protected heritage site along the Belgian coast, representing the maritime traditions and naval development of the Flanders region.
The lighthouse beam reaches 27 nautical miles across the North Sea, flashing three times every ten seconds with an intensity of 1,940,000 candela.
The structure contains 324 steps and employs Fresnel lenses at 65 meters above sea level, though it remains closed to public access.
