Commanderie de Vaillampont, Medieval templar commandery in Thines, Belgium.
Commanderie de Vaillampont is a former religious order facility with a castle, courtyard, and chapel set on a slope east of the Thines river. The buildings from different periods include a large hall with wooden beams and a smaller residential space for the commander.
This facility was first recorded in 1174 in a Nivelles document that noted a land donation to the Templars near the Namur Gate. It developed over the centuries into an established commandery of the religious order.
Stone carvings and tombstones displaying symbols of the Order of Malta can be seen throughout the buildings and nearby church. These marks show how the religious order expressed its presence in the local community.
The main hall accommodates up to 250 people and features authentic wooden beam construction plus a fireplace. The smaller building works for events of around 30 people.
During the Templar period, this facility operated two mills, including a water mill with three millstones. This operation shows the commandery was important both religiously and economically.
