Batak

Batak is a town in the Pazardzhik Province situated at about 1,036 meters elevation within the Rhodope Mountains. Pine forests surround the settlement, and the Stara Reka river runs through the valley floor.

The town became a key site during the April Uprising of 1876, when a conflict caused heavy casualties among residents. This event drew international attention to Bulgaria's struggle for independence.

The Church of Saint Nicholas preserves the memory of local history through its architecture and interior elements, representing Bulgarian Orthodox traditions.

The town is accessible by regular bus connections from Plovdiv throughout the day at frequent intervals. The central bus station serves as a good starting point for exploring the town center and main attractions.

A large reservoir created in the 1950s reshaped the landscape and opened the area to water sports and recreation. This man-made lake now defines the local environment and provides a backdrop for visiting the town.
