Snezhanka, Show cave near Peshtera, Bulgaria
Snezhanka is a cave system near Peshtera containing two main passages that extend 368 meters through underground chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The rooms impress visitors with their natural limestone formations that have developed over time and reveal the geology of the region.
Three local explorers discovered the cave system on January 3, 1961, which led to its development and public opening in 1965. Since then, it has become one of the more well-known tourist sites in the area.
The cave shows traces of ancient Thracian settlement with hearths and artifacts scattered throughout, revealing how people once sought shelter here during difficult times. Visitors walking through the passages can observe these remains and understand the long human story of this place.
A marked footpath stretching 830 meters leads from the parking area to the cave entrance, located about 5 kilometers southwest of Peshtera town. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended, as the path has some uphill sections and the ground can be uneven in places.
The Wonderful Hall contains a crystalline formation that resembles a feminine figure, inspiring the cave's name which refers to Snow White. This resemblance creates a special quality that stays with visitors long after they leave.
