Krichim Reservoir, reservoir in Bulgaria
Krichim Reservoir is a body of water on the Vacha River in Bulgaria, located about 10 kilometers south of the town of Krichim. The dam completed in 1972 stands about 145 meters tall and holds back a lake stretching approximately 4 kilometers long and 270 meters wide at its widest point.
The reservoir was built in 1972 as part of Bulgaria's efforts to develop its water and energy resources. The dam has since remained a functional part of the regional energy system, contributing to electricity generation and water flow management in the Vacha River basin.
The area around the reservoir offers pathways and nature trails for walking and picnics in a quiet setting. The best time to visit is outside the summer months when the area is less crowded and you can better enjoy the calm surroundings.
Krichim Reservoir is part of the Dospat-Vacha Hydropower Cascade, a network of multiple dams and power stations that work together to generate electricity for the region. Despite its smaller size compared to other reservoirs in the area, it handles substantial water volumes from upstream sources.
