Tsarska Bistritsa

Tsarska Bistritsa is a royal residence in the Rila Mountains above the Borovets area, built with Bulgarian Revival style and European romantic influences. The building sits near the Bistritsa River and blends traditional Bulgarian architecture with western European design elements.

Construction of this royal hunting residence took place between 1898 and 1914 under King Ferdinand I. Following nationalization in 1945, the building lost its original purpose and was later preserved as a landmark.

The interior showcases traditional Bulgarian craftsmanship through carved wooden columns, handwoven rugs from Kotel and Chiprovtsi, and decorative ceramic stoves. These elements shape the rooms and reflect local artistic traditions.

Inside the building stands a preserved ship cabin from the vessel New America, which King Ferdinand acquired through his connection with the ship's captain. This unusual decoration reflects the king's personal tastes and international connections.
