Sitnyakovo

Sitnyakovo is an Art Nouveau residence in the Rila Mountains near Borovets, featuring curved lines and natural forms in its facade design. Decorative elements accent the exterior throughout, creating a cohesive architectural statement.

The building was constructed in 1904 under architect Georgi Fingov and later hosted the signing of a Balkan treaty in 1913. This event marked its importance as a diplomatic site in early Bulgarian history.

The building served as a meeting place for the Writer's Union during communist times before returning to Tsar Simeon II. in the 1990s. Its rooms reflect the intellectual life of the region and how the space was valued by different communities across decades.

The residence is located near Borovets resort and is best reached through organized architectural tours of the region. It is advisable to inquire ahead about access conditions, as the mountain location requires some preparation for visitors.

The structure merges traditional high-mountain construction methods with Art Nouveau design principles in a way rarely seen in Bulgaria. This blend of local craftsmanship and European style makes it a distinctive example of its era.
