Raychova dupka, Karst cave in Cherni Osam, Bulgaria.
Raychova Dupka is a karst cave in the Eastern Balkan range that extends for 1500 meters underground. Located within the Steneto Reserve at an elevation of roughly 1400 meters, it displays the typical geological features found in this limestone landscape.
The cave was first explored in 1971 by cave researchers from Troyan. Subsequent mapping and surveying by various caving groups continued in the years that followed, adding to the understanding of its structure.
The cave represents a valuable scientific research site for geologists and biologists studying underground ecosystems and geological formations in the Balkan region.
Entry to the cave requires advance permission from the Ministry of Environment and Waters due to its protected status within the reserve. Proper preparation and coordination with the park authorities before visiting are essential steps.
Inside, two underground streams flow past sinter lakes and petrified waterfalls, creating remarkable geological formations. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 7,5 degrees Celsius throughout the year, a rare feature for underground environments.
