Torremolinos

Torremolinos is a municipality on the Costa del Sol in Málaga Province, Spain, stretching along several kilometers of Mediterranean coastline. The beaches lie below hillsides lined with apartment buildings and small hotels, while the town center sits on a rise above the shore.

The former fishing village changed into a European destination during the 1960s, when new hotels and beach bars began to appear along the coast. This development made the municipality one of the first modern resorts on Spain's southern shore.

The name comes from historic watermills that once ground grain along local streams, and a few stone remains can still be seen between modern neighborhoods. Local customs appear in the early morning markets near the church, where vendors sell fresh fish and vegetables from the surrounding area.

Most visitors reach the municipality through the nearby Málaga airport, which lies only a few kilometers to the east. The beaches and town center can be reached on foot or by local buses that run regularly between different neighborhoods.

An old defensive tower from Moorish times still stands next to modern shops and cafes in the town center, now serving as a small museum. Some of the old mill sites have been incorporated into public gardens, where palms and native plants grow between the historic stones.
