Puerto de Navacerrada

Puerto de Navacerrada is a mountain pass in the Sierra de Guadarrama that sits at 1,858 meters elevation. The area is served by three paved routes that offer varying grades and connect the provinces of Segovia and Madrid.

The pass gained strategic importance in 1788 when it replaced an older route between Madrid and Segovia. This change provided a more direct connection across the mountains for travel and commerce.

The pass serves as a winter sports hub where visitors come to ski and snowboard during cold months. In warmer seasons, the area draws hikers and cyclists who use the mountain roads and trails.

Roads may present challenging conditions depending on the season, especially during winter months when snow and ice accumulate. Bring appropriate tires and check weather conditions before heading up the mountain.

The area receives over 1,200 millimeters of annual rainfall, which keeps the landscape green and supports lush vegetation on the slopes. This moisture-rich environment makes it noticeably different from drier mountain passes in the region.
