Bola del Mundo, Mountain summit in Guadarrama Sierra, Spain
Bola del Mundo is a peak in the Guadarrama mountains west of Madrid, standing at about 2,250 meters elevation. A paved track leads from a mountain pass to the top, passing a restaurant partway up, and the summit is marked by transmission towers.
The name comes from transmission antennas installed at the summit in 1959 for radio and television broadcasts. The infrastructure has been modernized over time to withstand the harsh mountain environment.
The peak draws cyclists and hikers who seek both physical challenge and mountain experiences. Its reputation has made it a destination where visitors feel the spirit of mountain sports and outdoor adventure.
The ascent follows a paved road, making it relatively accessible for most visitors, with a restaurant available partway up. Visit during stable weather since the elevation can bring fog and wind that limit visibility and comfort.
The summit supports large transmission towers housed in a distinctive missile-shaped protective dome designed to handle extreme frost and weather. This specialized engineering reflects the harsh conditions that equipment must endure at this elevation.
