Asómate de Hoyos, Mountain summit in Sierra de Guadarrama, Spain
Asómate de Hoyos is a mountain peak in Sierra de Guadarrama standing at about 2,240 meters (7,350 feet) and forms part of the Cuerda Larga ridge. It is composed mainly of granite and gneiss, and its exposed position along this well-traveled route makes it a recognizable landmark.
The mountain range formed over millions of years through the geological processes that created the Central System. The rock and slopes show a long history of erosion and weathering shaped by glacial activity in ancient times.
Mountaineers and hikers have long used this location as a popular destination within the mountain range. The network of trails here shows how important this area is to people who love outdoor walking.
The hike usually begins at Puerto de la Morcuera and follows the ridge trail known as Cuerda Larga. Bring good footwear, weatherproof clothing, and water as the peak is exposed to strong winds and changing conditions.
The name comes from three glacial niches on the southern slope that look like deep hollows in the rock. These distinctive features gave the peak its unusual name, which means 'Look out from the Holes'.
