Waterfall of Ducha de los Alemanes, Natural waterfall in Sierra de Guadarrama, Spain.
Waterfall of Ducha de los Alemanes is a natural cascade along the Navazuela Stream in Madrid's mountain range, creating a drop of approximately 2 meters (6.5 feet) through dense pine forest. The water flows over dark rocks into a small basin surrounded by tall trees and rocky terrain.
The site took its current name from German mountaineers who regularly bathed here in the early 1900s, replacing the earlier name Chorro del Árbol Viejo. This original name referred to an ancient yew tree growing beside the waterfall.
The name reflects German mountaineers from the early 1900s who bathed here regularly, turning the site into a meeting place for mountain lovers. Today, hikers still gather at this spot as a destination along their routes through the mountain landscape.
To reach this waterfall, take the Roman road of Fuenfría from the Dehesas de Cercedilla recreational area and walk for about 45 minutes through the mountains. The path goes through varied terrain with moderate climbs and follows the stream for part of the journey.
An ancient yew tree grows beside the waterfall, a rare species in these mountains that shaped the site's original identity. This tree's presence was so significant that it gave the cascade its first name before German visitors arrived.
