Alhaurín el Grande, municipality of Spain
Alhaurín el Grande is a municipality in Málaga Province located in the Guadalhorce Valley. The settlement spreads gently across hillsides and sits among olive groves and orange orchards that dominate the surrounding landscape.
The area was an important agricultural and irrigation center during Arab rule, and this farming tradition lasted for centuries afterward. After Christian reconquest, the place retained its role as a production center for local crops and resources.
The name comes from Arab settlers who once farmed this valley, and the layout of many streets still reflects that medieval pattern. White-washed houses and narrow alleyways show the Moorish building style that shaped the settlement for hundreds of years.
The place is easy to reach by car and has adequate parking in the town center. Local shops and small restaurants are available, allowing you to spend time exploring the surrounding valley at your own pace.
The valley here produces some of the finest fruit in the region, and many small farmers sell their harvest directly to visitors who stop by. This direct connection between grower and buyer remains very much alive in how the place works today.
