Fornalutx

Fornalutx is a mountain village in the Serra de Tramuntana on Mallorca, featuring gray stone houses, red-tiled roofs, and narrow winding streets. Citrus and olive groves on terraced slopes surround the settlement, while mountains frame the entire landscape.

The settlement was founded in the 13th century when residents built terraced gardens and irrigation systems across the mountainous terrain. These agricultural methods shaped the landscape we see today.

The village reflects the way local families have arranged their homes and streets around agricultural life, with stone buildings nestled closely together and small squares that serve as meeting places. Daily rhythms here follow the seasons of citrus farming and the care of terraced gardens.

The village sits on a narrow mountain road with limited parking; it is best explored on foot, especially through the narrow lanes in the center. The main square has cafes and small shops for visitors.

A former olive oil mill in the village has been converted into a cultural center displaying hand-painted ceramic tiles from the region. These crafted pieces come from local artists and reveal the artistic traditions of the place.
