Ethnographic Museum of Grandas de Salime

The Ethnographic Museum of Grandas de Salime is a regional institution in Asturias displaying traditional agricultural tools and rural implements. The collection spreads across three historic buildings, each housing different aspects of regional material culture and domestic life.

A private collector named José María Naveiras Escanlar founded the institution in 1984, beginning with artifacts he had gathered from western Asturian villages. The holdings grew significantly as local people donated objects that their families no longer used.

The exhibition spaces display daily rural routines through textile workshops, wine cellars, and craft areas that show how people in this region worked and lived. You can see the practical arrangements that shaped peasant society for generations.

The collection includes a working water mill mechanism that demonstrates how power was harnessed in the region long ago. Beside it stand traditional grain storage structures that show how communities preserved their harvests.
