Dunas de Liencres Natural Park, Natural park at the Pas River estuary in Piélagos, Spain.

Dunas de Liencres is a protected natural area with pine forests, golden sand beaches, and extensive dune formations along the Cantabrian coast. Walking trails weave through the landscape, allowing you to explore the different habitats on foot.

The park developed from a reforestation project that began in 1949 to stabilize the shifting dunes by planting maritime pines. This deliberate effort reshaped the landscape and created the forest structures you see today.

The beaches here are gathering places for surfers who ride the waves throughout the year. You'll also spot birdwatchers, especially during winter months when migratory species arrive.

Marked trails run through the pine forest, making navigation straightforward and offering various viewpoints. Bringing binoculars and a bird guide is helpful if you want to watch migratory species.

The dune system displays two distinct zones: mobile dunes that continue to shift and fixed dunes stabilized by plants like sand rush and sea thistle. This diversity makes the area valuable for understanding how coastal ecosystems develop.
