Estatua de Cervantes, Bronze statue near University Square in Valladolid, Spain

The statue depicts Miguel de Cervantes holding a book in his right hand and a pen in his left hand, with a sword on his belt.

Created by sculptor Nicolas Fernandez de la Oliva in 1877, the monument was initially placed near Cervantes' house before moving to University Square in 1889.

The original pedestal contained four relief sculptures by Pablo Berasategui illustrating scenes from Don Quixote, now displayed at Casa de Cervantes.

The statue stands between the cathedral and the law faculty of the University of Valladolid, making it a central reference point for visitors.

The base of the statue bears the inscription 'Canal Valladolid Foundry 1877', marking its creation at the Castile Canal's dockyard.
