Church of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, Valladolid

The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows is a stone sanctuary with a grand entrance facade featuring Corinthian columns and sculptural decoration. Inside, the main nave leads to an ornate altar area with carved wood details and religious artwork.

Construction started in 1613 following a substantial donation from a wealthy merchant couple who funded the project generously. The building developed over following decades and became an important religious center in the city.

The church serves as home to a historic penitential brotherhood dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, one of Valladolid's oldest confraternities. Members gather here during Holy Week to organize processions that follow traditions stretching back centuries.

Access is available on weekdays during morning and early evening hours, with daily services shaping the rhythm of the place. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and respect any religious activities taking place.

The church houses an intricately carved wooden statue of Mary created by a master sculptor in the early 1500s. This artwork received a ceremonial coronation in 2009, making it one of the few religious sculptures in the city to receive such an honor.
