The Templar House, Toledo

The Templar House is a medieval residence in Toledo built around a central courtyard that connects the surrounding rooms. The interior preserves architectural details and decoration across multiple periods, with a basement section in the eastern wing retaining original features from earlier centuries.

The original construction began in the early 11th century with features built before Christian conquest, and the structure was later adapted in the 14th century to serve as lodging for a military religious order.

The layout shows a blend of Moorish and Christian influences visible in the decorated plasterwork and geometric patterns throughout the rooms. Visitors can observe these cultural layers in the details that mark the different periods of Toledo's history.

The building is laid out so you can walk around the different wings from the central courtyard, which helps with finding your way through the rooms. Keep in mind that the basement is located beneath the eastern section and access to lower areas may involve narrow stairs.

The southern entrance displays a modified stone portal with lion protomes and noble heraldic shields set into the facade. This blend of earlier and later craftsmanship shows the building was reshaped multiple times to fit new owners over the centuries.
