Colegio de Nuestra Señora de los Infantes, Toledo

The Colegio de Nuestra Señora de los Infantes is a school building and textile museum in Toledo containing two irregular courtyards within its layout. The structure features a simple masonry entrance hall and decorated windows fitted with iron grilles designed by Master Domingo de Céspedes.

Cardinal Juan Martinez Siliceo founded the educational institution in 1552 to train young singers called cleriçones for liturgical performances at Toledo Cathedral. The building was constructed as an independent establishment with its own design and purpose.

The main entrance displays elaborate carvings including female figures as supporting columns, a heraldic shield held by cherubs, and a circular relief showing the Virgin with Child flanked by allegorical representations of Virtue and Justice.

The building now houses a Museum of Tapestries, Textiles and Sacred Art following a careful restoration. Visitors can expect well-maintained galleries displaying the collection within the historic spaces of the structure.

The building was constructed as an independent structure with an irregular floor plan, uncommon in Toledo where buildings typically share walls with neighboring properties. This exceptional layout distinguishes it within the urban fabric of the city.
