Army Museum

The Army Museum is housed in the historic Alcázar fortress in Toledo and displays military artifacts across multiple exhibition halls. The building combines the original castle with a modern annex, presenting an extensive collection of weapons, uniforms, and military objects from different eras.

The museum started in 1803 as a royal military collection in Madrid before moving to Toledo in 2010. This relocation to the Alcázar fortress gave the collection a new home and greater prominence in Spain's cultural landscape.

The permanent exhibition shows how Spanish military forces developed over time through weapons, uniforms, flags, and personal items from different periods. You can trace how soldiers' equipment and clothing changed as history progressed.

The museum is located in a fortress on a hillside with multiple levels, so comfortable walking shoes are important. Modern facilities like an auditorium and classrooms support different types of visits, and guided tours are available in several languages.

The collection includes two modified Spanish Enigma machines that show how cryptography was used during World War II. Equally remarkable is the sword of Muhammad XII, the last emir of Granada, representing a pivotal moment in Spanish history.
